Volume 2 Number 12
Fishy!
Hey everybody! I’m ok and, no, Barney (the wrecker driver) did not kidnap me (again) for writing about him… yet.
It just seems like I wrote that blog yesterday.
I am not even (again) sure what to write about. Some of you want to hear about what happened when I made it to
It is Father’s Day this weekend. So I should write about Dads and such. I’m a Dad, I have a Dad, I know some Dads so I am going to write about…fish.
Fish? Yes, fish. Not fishing. Just fish. Not even “fishes.” Just one fish in particular.
To preface: I was reminded about this particular fish when the Boy and I were buying him a fish tank and getting it set up. In the process 6 out of the 5 fish he bought lost their lives (Petco has a GREAT dead fish return policy!). He was getting disgruntled and saddened by the loss and, being the extraordinary father that I am, I said “Son, they’re just fish! At least they are not kittens or puppies!” (Horrible, I know.)
I also told him that it is a delicate procedure. With puppies and kittens, you put them in the car and go. They are only changing surroundings. Fish are being transported in a plastic bag “capsule” over (to them) a vast distance from one “fish planet” to another hoping that the new one sustains life. Cross your fingers.
With that being said, I am pleased to announce that Steve is still dead and still with us! Let me explain.
Steve was some sort of random-ass fish that lived in one of our tanks at work. One day, a little more than 5 years ago, he died.
I have told you that I work at a very strange office. In fact, the day that Steve died, I was just finishing my second week of employ and realizing that it was a VERY wacky workplace and realized that I fit right in.
That should help to explain to you why, when we extracted Steve from the aquarium, we quickly sealed him in a zip-loc bag and…put him in the break-room freezer.
Yes we did.
We froze Steve in hopes that, one day, science would find a reason for Steve’s death and be able to reverse cure him and bring him back to us. That has not happened yet. Actually we have not even checked into a cure yet. In fact, we usually forget about Steve unless he falls out of the General Electric “cryogenic” tomb when someone is pulling out a TV dinner or something.
So, even though Steve has passed on, he is still with us and will remain that way. Even though he is sometimes temporarily forgotten because we get wrapped up in our hectic day-to-day lives, he is still with us. Then we are reminded of him or see the corner of his baggy peeking out from underneath a frozen pot pie and we can all smile, because we know he will always be there.
I hope all you Dads have a great Father’s Day and I hope all of you non-Dads treat your patriarchs to something special.
Until Next Time,
